Brett Ratner Reveals His "Superman Returns" VersionPosted: September 16th, 2008 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
At one point, it was Brett Ratner who was set to direct "Superman Returns" and Bryan Singer to direct "X-Men 3." In the end, the two filmmakers swapped jobs, which led to Warner Bros wanting to reboot the Superman franchise. But what would Brett Ratner's film have been like if he had proceeded as planned? (The script for Ratner's version was written by JJ Abrams.)
"The original movie I was going to be a part of, took place on Krypton for about half of the movie," Ratner told MTV News. "So it was much more otherworldly, and much darker, because there was a civil war on Krypton. You'd get more of the history."
Darker? That's the new buzz word after the success of "The Dark Knight." Warner Bros has recently revealed that they would love to take the next Superman installment in that direction. And now that Ratner has been refused to make the "Guitar Hero" movie, he could still have a shot at making his Superman version. "Maybe we can go back to it one day," he said.
And don't worry, nobody is planning to cast Brendan Fraser or Nicolas Cage in the new film. "I definitely agreed with Bryan Singer that you need an unknown actor," Ratner said. "I was going to surround Superman with known actors, but it's important to get an unknown. I love Tom Cruise, but to have someone like him who you see as Tom Cruise would be a mistake."

How do these idiots (Ratner, McG, etc) get much less keep jobs directing? Simply stunning...

So, technically, Superman Returns could have been so much worse. And I agree with i367n5, and throw Eli Roth into that pile.

Jesus, nothing sounds cool coming out of his mouth. The only thing I liked was he understands an unknown should be Superman, which is too late as we have a new Superman already. Now as for JJ Abrams, him being involved sounds the most interesting but seeing has he isn't the be all to end all, that script might actually be a lame idea in the end.
