"Superman Returns" Sequel Gets a TitlePosted: February 20th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Warner Bros has been talking about rebooting the Superman franchise for a while, especially when "The Dark Knight" ended up breaking the $1 billion mark at the box office. The studio started to look at their DC Comics' properties, promising to put several of them on the fast track.
Now, /Film received a link to a password protected page on the official Legendary Pictures website that lists "Superman Unleashed" as one of their upcoming films that are in development." There is even a vague plot synopsis that states the following:
"Ramping up the action of its esteemed predecessor, the sequel to 'Superman Returns' promises to raise the stakes and take the audience to heights of action that no other superhero movie can achieve."
So according to this, Warner Bros, DC Comics and Legendary Pictures are hard at work on a "Superman Returns" sequel and not a rumored reboot. In addition, the title will be "Superman Unleashed," rather than "Superman: The Man of Steel."

Action being the key word here... now get the villain right and we may have a winner.

Great! Please bring Bryan Singer back. He has proven that he can make a freaking great superhero sequel (X-Men 2). Brandon Routh, Kevin Spacey, James Marsden, Sam Huntington and Frank Langella will also return too won't they? I wouldnt mind Kate Bosworth returning too. I feel like one of the very few people who actually enjoyed her performance, dispite the fact that she was fairly young to have had an child 8 years prior to the film's setting.

Come of, for the love of God, just put Solomon Grundy in it. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Jar-Jar Binks.

Unleashed? f*ck NO! are they serious?! I hope to god they change that - and Gunslinger - Solomon Grundy would be terrible!

I was thinking Soloman Grundy could be a reporter or something. Or maybe a fashion designer--men's pants.

to: "Gunslinger" - the origin of Soloman Grundy is just to horror story ya know? he's like a zombie, a man who took the flesh of someone else and came back to life. I just think with all this hype for this sequel its going to have to be someone badass and challenging for Superman.

Unleashed? Yuck. Only villain I want to see them bring to the big screen: Doomsday. However, Smallville kind of stole their thunder by giving Doomsday a fresh look and origin. Otherwise, why not bring magic into it? It's Supe's one real weakness besides Kryptonite and could open up a lot of possibility. OR bring in Zod. Actually, forget everything I just said and just do that...Zod would be great (the armored version from the comics, not the Terrence Stamp version).

Title? Mheh....it's OK. Kind of makes me think something is getting unleashed, like lets say, Doomsday?!? Just a guess. I'd rather see Zod or Brainiac. Mark Millar could still be involved too.....who really knows?

How about just 'Superman', simple title, good movie? Goddamned title sounds like an action figure line. "Superman Unleashed, now with power punch and swivel-hip action!"

Hollywood is starting to make me think it is impossible to make a good Superman movie. No matter what they say or do, this is probably going to suck, just like the last three Superman movies. Terrible.....

Dude, I was totally kidding. I think Supe needs a serious rival, like Bizarro. Someone who could really kick his ass for a while, until, of course, a chunk of red kryptonite shows up. (I loved how Wayne took him on in The Dark Knight Returns. That was brilliant.) Grundy was the just worst choice I could think of, maybe next to Gleek and a bucket of water, minus the Wonder Twins.

Tom Welling is the real Superman, and Doomsday is the best choise ever, for a ultimate unleash. Then they can make a, like "Superman Reborn" or something like that.

makingcircles....good point...that's probably exactly what they'll do...they're gonna change up the story and try to make superman as realistic as possible because chris nolan decided to make batman as realistic as possible...but those studio 'geniuses' don't understand that batman and superman are not the same thing...batman is allowed to be dark and realistic...cuz that's the kind of comic it is....superman isn't...it's not a realistic character...cuz he has powers....batman doesn't have extraordinary powers...i just don't understand how and why those filmmakers can't see that
