When news broke that Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook was fired, Johnny Depp told the LA Times that he's not as eager to make "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" as he was before, since Cook was the reason why Depp signed on for the franchise to begin with.
While we wait to find out if Depp will stay on or drop out of the project, his co-star Geoffrey Rush told MTV News that he's definitely set to reprise his role as nefarious Captain Barbossa. Rush added that he has been told to keep his schedule open and that the current plan is to begin filming this spring.
"They're waiting for the screenplay writers to put together something that's beyond the trilogy, take it off into a new direction so that it's fresh and hopefully really interesting for an audience, that they're not going to just sausage-machine out something else, which wouldn't be so good," said Rush.
The new movie is called "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and is set to appear in theaters during the Summer of 2011.

they better hope and pray that depp stays on, bc no one will see this movie without captain jack. they prob wouldn't even make it, since he's the star and they would NEVER recast him.
another POTC movie is completely unnecessary

I saw the first one bc I was with a girlfriend who wanted to see it at the time but I never had interest in that series. I haven't even downloaded for free the sequels. However - there is something positive about it: it's not a reboot or a remake. Pirates is a series of it's own. Something to be appreciated. We are getting close to half of all movies being remakes/reboots.
