Willem Dafoe on Returning to "Spider-Man" FranchisePosted: November 3rd, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Willem Dafoe was the Green Goblin in the first "Spider-Man" film, and even though his character was eventually defeated by Spidey, he returned for next two installments as a mirror-bound apparition seen by his son Harry (James Franco).
Now that director Sam Raimi is making the fourth "Spider-Man" film, Dafoe is looking for ways to return. Unfortunately, Harry did not survive the third film, so it might be difficult to work in the Green Goblin again.
"I think it's possible," Dafoe told MTV News, adding: "But I haven't heard anything."
I personally don't know a way for the Green Goblin to return. And since Raimi has already talked about using The Lizard, Morbius and Carnage in future installments, it may be a good thing if he never does.

probaly a flashback scene if anything.or maybe hallucinations caused by mysterio if hes in it. also in the comics norman osborn does fake his death and switch his body with someone else cuz he survives being impaled.he has a healing factor from the goblin formula.that could be a reason or just not have him at all.

@cyberpunk....the character who norman osborn first kills after he turns into the green goblin, his assisstant, his name is the same as the character who eventually becomes the hobgoblin but hes already been killed off.so the hobgoblin would seem kinda pointless, unless of course they have some other character be him.

@johnny_boy
Yeah but that's the thing about the Hongoblin. He has many alter egos, so it wouldn't be a problem choosing another character.

It's a comic book movie about a guy who got bit by a radioactive spider. There's a million different ways you can bring back the character. I personally don't think he should be brought back, but I'm just sayin'...

@johnny_boy - you're talking as if they're going to pay attention to the source material, though. Think about everything they've messed up since the first movie. One of my main problems was the introduction of Gwen Stacy in the third movie. Continuity has already been fucked with so much, I don't know if they can come back from that.

Willem did a great job as the psychotic side of the Goblin, but I think it's time to put that character to sleep...no sense ruining one of the few successful character portrayals by overkill

Well, take this in note, johnny_boy. In the comics, Norman Osborn may have died, but the serum that made him the Green Goblin gave him super healing powers, so there's a chance he could come back from the dead, and seek revenge on Spider-Man for killing his son.

If they do bring Green Goblin back, it can give Marvel an excuse to do "Civil" movie, since Norman Osborn was the head of the Thunderbolts. That would be really good if Sam Raimi knows how to develop the character.

Yes bring back Willem Dafoe as "Mad" Jack Osborn,Norman Osborn twin brother. He is there to run OScorps and him and James Jonah Jameson are old friends.Who will also help James Jonah Jameson to bring the Scorpion farword at the end of 4 and be the star in 5.Then by part 6 Mad Jack will form The Sinister six.I will be a two parter with so many villains you will need more time to tell a good story. just my thoughts cause i want to see Willem Dafoe in the movies again.

Well the performance enhancers will not let either of them die. if any mortal wounds are taken by the subject the enhancers put the host in a type of coma until the damage is repaired so they both can be brought back just Raimi is a fucking retard

My vote is NO.
The Goblin died in the first, his assistant died in the first, his son died in the 3rd... he's done.
Can (and do) comics bring back people from the dead... yes, they've done that for decades. Should they here... NO. And here is why (I think)...
1. There are too many villains Spidey can still tackle.
2. Bring back ANY Goblin is like having Lex Luthor there STILL in EVERY SINGLE SUPERMAN MOVIE SINCE THE REEVES VERSIONS... MOVE ALONG! Evolve! Show us something(body) NEW!
3. And the last paragraph says it best: '...since Raimi has already talked about using The Lizard, Morbius and Carnage in future installments, it may be a good thing if he never does.'

@Shogo - good points (coma, regenerating, etc.). So bringing him back is no prob. I just think Gobbey has been done... to death.

Maybe Norman and Harry can both be in the mirror screaming AVENGE ME!!! at someone. Incidentally I loved that scene, it was one of the things that made SPIDER-MAN 2 by far the best of the series.

well you know he's not dead.... niether is harry.......
these villains never REEEEEALy die.
Just wait, harry didn't really die he just left because he felt he needed to start his life over so they really just burried a coffin full of chicken wire... or lightbulbs.. or trashbags..... while harry is in jamaica getting a tan and going to the darkside. Dafoe, in the meantime, never reallllly died either.. same with doc oc.. etc.... ;)

antichrist is sick and twisted. And... this might sound like blasphemy, i don't think the art and impeccable production values redeemed it of being a gross glorification of sexual abuse.... but i'm probably missing the point of it. A man ejaculating blood and a woman cutting off her clitoris kind of distracts from whatever "point" you are trying to make that would give good "reason" to see that stuff graphically.

In the comics he survives the glider impalement and comes back even deadlier.
It's too soon to bring him back, but he should come back for the final film to organize the Sinister 6.
