Joe Johnson on Directing "Jurassic Park 4"

Joe Johnson on Directing Jurassic Park 4Submit Comment
AICN caught up with director Joe Johnson on the set of "The Wolfman" to talk about his upcoming projects, including the long-rumored fourth "Jurassic Park" installment.

"Well, there is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it's nothing like the first three," he said. "It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved."

Johnson added that if he comes on board, he would want to make an entire new "Jurassic Park" trilogy. And the films would not revolve around people heading back to the island.

"Why would anybody go back to that island? It was hard enough to figure out the second and third reason for them to go. But it would take it off in a whole other trilogy basically," he said. "I think we are at that point where we are due for another one if we are going to do it. I don't know, but we will see."

didnt the guy from the first JP go back to help rescue some little brat? y would he go back knowing what to expect.johnston should have took it to a new direction when he did part 3 if he feels that way.

Onlt one way to take this and thats getting the Miitary involved.Raptors in Afganistan?Sending T-rex's into hostile areas under the controle of special forces. They could be controled via giant electric collars so the dinos are sort of semi trained...untill they somehow get loosed and you end up with the Army becoming the hunted as the dinos turn.Prt 2 would be set up nicley with Dinos loose all over the the south east asia area and world goverments employing their forces to try and bring em under control.Action sequence galore.

If you not going to bring people to the island, you must take the dinosaurs to the people. Which they did in the second movie, and that sucked.
Ari Gold writes:

I hated these movies.. Dinosaurs are gay.. But if they make this why don't they go into the horror genre and make it 'Jason vs Predators in Jurassic Park' or 'Aliens in a Jurrasic Park.' Or a movie where they use dinosaurs as test subjects to blast into space to monitor their behaviour in zero gravity.

'Rambo 5: Jurassic Park.' That would be an awesome movie!!

Okay, let me get this straight:

Jurassic Park 4 will take place somewhere besides Jurassic Park.

Smart, Johnson, real smart...

Rocketman, you are pretty close to the original script for the fourth installment. It would revolve around the military training a special unit of dinosaur commandos, yes, you heard right, dinosaur commandos. Surely Joe isn't thinking of doing that still, is he? At least it would be very different than the others, I guess.

The need to make a script that shows what the world be like if the dinosaurs were truly among us. Get their ass off the island and show me a kid adopting a baby raptor for a pet store.

2 ways a continuation of this story could work:
1) have the Jurassic Park idea take off and become successful with the public, with people buying pet dinosaurs and dinozoos popping up everywhere.
2) Call it "Neogene Park" and clone wooly rhinos and mammoths, giant sloths, sabre-toothed cats and early ape-humans.

Jurassic Park can still have a very high level of potential, you just need a smart and original script. Just take the franchise into a whole new level without ruining the original story. They need something intense...

@ Douchenozzle.
Cool,i think it would be a great idea, not so much Dino commandos more Elite soilders using the Dinos like they would trained attack dogs.Just think how cool it would be seeing Special forces sending a pair of Raptors into a cave system in Afganistan?

God, and to think they're are so many geologic periods to exploit. I can't wait for Triassic Tract. Permian Playground. The Bodaceoous Cretaceous. Cretaceous Camp, and so on. I mean, seriously, they could make fifty more films. Roll one of the films into a Michael Bay Transformers 'film'. Call it 'Survivor: Dinobot Island'.

The possibilities for box office misery are endless.

Bring Goldblum back! haha. Everyone talks about what a bad idea a 4th one would be. But you'd all go see it and you know it. Nothing topped the first one, but i still thoroughly enjoyed 2 and 3.
