During the Cannes Film Festival, the Weinstein Company premiered some footage from "The Master," a new movie by director Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood, Punch-Drunk Love, Magnolia, Boogie Nights). Critics loved the footage, and now we have a teaser trailer, which you can watch below.
Plot: The film is set in America in the years following World War II. A charismatic intellectual (Philip Seymour Hoffman) launches a faith-based organization and taps a young drifter (Joaquin Phoenix) as his right-hand man. But as the faith begins to gain a fervent following, the onetime vagabond finds himself questioning the belief system he has embraced, and his mentor.
"The Master" co-stars Amy Adams and is set to hit theaters on October 12th.
Well, it IS from Anderson, the GOOD Anderson, so I'm sure it'll possess redeeming cinematic qualities, though I seriously doubt anyone will watch it for the 'fun' factor.

Anderson is no flake or amateur. He knows what he's doing by casting Phoenix and knows what his full potential is.
'Bout f*cking time if you asked me. Phoenix is a great actor, but f*cks around too much and doesn't concentrate on his craft as much as he should. Gives the illusion of a f*ck-up, but he hasn't lasted this long and worked with the some of the great names in Hollywood (like Anderson)if he did.
His subtle, minimal acting to maximizing effect in the trailer is proof of this.
It's always the unexpected with Anderson. It's too soon to tell what the hell is going on at this time, but expect only good things out of this film.
@CelluiodMan You hit it right on> Joaquin Phoenix is looking utterly fantastic in this. No doubt this movie will up be up for the Best Picture Nomination next year, possibly one for Joaquin, mark my words. The Academy loves a great comeback actor. Take Mickey Rourke for example with The Wrestler. I'm so glad to see PTA back at it again. There Will Be Blood was gruesomely badass and f*cking ruthless acting by Daniel Day Lewis. I'll have my tickets ready for this one, and Nicolas Winding Refn's next effort with Only God Forgives with Ryan Gosling.

Is there anyway to change the Avengers commercial that plays before every f*cking video on Worstpreviews and has been for the last 3 months? Or at least some way to stop it from automatically replaying? "the most exciting thing about the avengers is that it's heroes you already know coming together to fight a greater evil" jesus, yeah I want to be reminded each time i see it that I've spent at least $100 already getting to know all these great heroes for their big disney movie
Phoenix seems to excel as a drifter, it's like a second nature for him. The combination of Anderson & Phoenix should be giving an interesting result with a peculiar psychological character but as long the story will avoid being monotonous. It should be good.
