"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" Sequel Gets a Title and Release Date

Hope this is good.

Reportedly, all 10,348 apes are to be played by Andy Serkis.

Lets just hope they are able to capture the magic of the last film. It was by far a surprise hit.

Rise was surprisingly good. Hope this will be too.

I actually think the last film is a tad overrated. It’s watchable but equally cliché in many aspects and all the characters save for Cesar were two-dimensional. Still, it made for a respectable reboot, setting up for a sequel to grow and explore interesting storylines.

The title is lame, though. Think about it… how is "Dawn" really any different from "Rise"? They could have called the last film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and it would have worked all the same. They should have come up with a title that would more clearly define (and separate from the previous) the next evolutionary phase of planet Earth’s takeover.

I don’t know, how about:

Army of the Planet of the Apes
Revolution of the Planet of the Apes
Victory for the Planet of the Apes
Empire of the Planet of the Apes

I’m not saying any of these are gold, but something at least that would sound more progressive than "Dawn". As is, the current title denotes a rather tedious continuation of the story.

Yeah, dawn and rise are pretty much synonymous, as per the allusion of the sun's position in the sky; thus when you say 'dawn' you automatically imply the sun is rising, ergo, they should go with something else.

As for the first, eh. It was far better than I imagined, though I had extremely low expectations given the studio and the subject matter.


I do think though that Caesar certainly outshone the human actors, but I found the whole viral apocalypse a bit contrived, in that, the same virus that makes all other primates vastly more intelligent, kills only humans, the top of the food chain primate, and that's just far too convenient, given that the script writers had to develop some means to rid the world of superior humans without resorting to nuclear war.

Not really 'good' writing, imo.

Hope the third will be more of a musical.

I'm hoping for the best but the biggest obstacle for this new film surprisingly enough, might be the returning director. I have a feeling he might have lucked out with the last one.. I hope he proves me wrong.

Minkowski, there are 100's of things in real life that would either kill us or make us very sick that would have no effect on animals, apes included. 100's of things. and that's too convenient for you? The chances in real life of this happening are quite possible. And yeah, they obviously have to come to a conclusion as to why humans are so dumb since these films take place before the film that told us so. It's perfect. duh.

^^Ok. name one thing that will make an ape/chimp smarter than you and me, and that would make a human die Ebola-style. Just one. Hell, name one chemical that would have NO EFFECT whatsoever on an animal, and yet quickly kill a human. Just one. Just. One.

In fact, research uses mice and pigs and other animals because, in a number of ways, their physiology, which clearly is farther diverged from that of primates, is close enough to a humans for the R&D of new drugs and treatments, so if what you said were even remotely accurate, there would be a serious issue with doing drug-related research on animals.

Actually, IIRC, the original films, bad as they were, are, predicated the rise of apes and other primates on mutagenic radiation and the emptying of niches previously held by humans, but regardless, the original Planet of the Apes films are not only ludicrously unscientific, they're fantasy films
