Philip Seymour Hoffman Offered Role in "The Hunger Games" SequelPosted: June 12th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Both Deadline and Variety are reporting that Philip Seymour Hoffman has been offered the role of Plutarch Heavensbee in the upcoming "Hunger Games" sequel, called "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."
Heavensbee is the new gamemaker for the Third Quarter Quell at the next Hunger Games after Seneca Crane (Wes Bentley) proved that he wasn't ready for that responsibility. The character is a big part of the sequel.
Meanwhile, it looks like Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch and Armie Hammer, who were the frontrunners to take the Finnick Odair role, may not be in the movie at all. Kitsch dropped out of the running and producer Nina Jacobson claims that actors for that role are not currently being considered.

I haven’t seen the Hunger Games yet or read the books, but Hoffman is awesome in pretty much everything he’s played in. Cyclone Dude in “Twister” can’t be beat. Seriously sinister in “Mission Impossible 3”. I’ll go see the new movie.

I think (hope) he's an actor with more self respect than that. Although I hoped that about a lot of people.

The Hunger Games didn't deserve all of the praise it received. It had a great premise, but failed to truly realize the potential it contained.
If the story is about kids violently killing each other in a competition to survive, it's not a smart idea to censor the violence and target the film at such a young audience.
And if you're going to be dealing with such adult drama, get actors who can pull their weight. The first film only did this with a handful of roles, and while I was hopeful seeing Hoffman's name popping up, when I read the other names in this article I began to realize that the chances of them improving in this area is remote.

Hopefully Hoffman takes the role. As awesome as The Hunger Games was, I didn't care much for the other two books. With good writing and a stellar cast, maybe the film version will disprove the book-better-than-movie rule for once...

"if he was in shape like brad pitt or tom cruise he'll be a leading man f*cking all the hoez."
You forget he's also ugly as f*ck, and thus all the skinny in the world won't make him handsome, so no, you be wrong, dog.
But good actor. Just ugly.
