"Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell" to Become a MoviePosted: June 15th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
  Several years ago, Paramount Pictures was looking to acquire film rights to "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell," the popular video game by Ubisoft. Peter Berg (Hancock, Battleship) was in talks to direct, but the project fell apart.
Now comes word that several major studios are once again interested in turning the game into a movie, with Paramount being the frontrunner since the studio has a history with Clancy, previously developing the Jack Ryan franchise and working on "Without Remorse," based on a Clancy novel.
"Splinter Cell" revolves around Sam Fisher, a covert operative assigned to a top-secret National Security Agency branch called the Third Echelon. There have been several installments of the game, most recently, "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction," released in 2010. A new game, "Blacklist," is planned for next year.

Hollywood's predictability almost guarantees it will star one of the three Chris:
Chris Hemsworth
Chris Evans
or Chris Pine

Im surprised more console games don't get giving the film treatment. Considering hollywood has resorted to using board games as inspiration, you would think one of them would be clever enough to realise the potential of a subject millions of people are familiar with and a storyline that would translate without much effort. But I suppose the makers of the games would expect some kind of royalties and the studios probably don't want to fork out money left right and centre.

I can't imagine hearing Sam Fisher without Michael Ironside.
@Avirex, yeah, sadly you're most likely correct.

well considering Fisher is a 30s or 40s something spy, the 3 you mentioned would be out of the running, also Fisher is dark haired starting to Salt and Pepper so i would say Clooney or Craig get it.

@Shogo
That makes perfect sense.
...which is exactly why Hollywood will do the opposite of that.

They'll give this one to Len Wiseman, I bet. Or McG.

What about Liam Neeson as Sam Fisher? Holy f*ck, he would break everyone's neck in the movie! I would pay admission price to see that for two hours.
Splinter Cell starring Liam Neeson.

@Gates
Sorry bro, but even the new game "Blacklist" doesn't have MI in it. Too bad i loved him too. But i heard conviction was stupidly short, and in this he takes over like Fourth Echelon... And looks WAY younger, like in Conviction! So a no-go for me. Which game did
you like the best?

Finally a video game movie adaption instead of remaking a classic 80's movie.
Hollywood has finally realise that there is something to do other than ruining kids's and parnet's memeroies of classic movies.

Considering Splinter Cell Conviction was just two bullets away from being Taken, i hope they don't try that one.

i'd rather see a rainbow six movie first...isn't that what came out in the games before splinter cell?...and why does it always have to have the words 'secret operative'?...geez not everything is a 007 or bourne or spy...'secret operative' is a dirty word thanks to hollywood's overuse of it in movies today...except for liam neeson because he plays his parts well, gone from kick ass to still kicking ass and nobody can upstage that, not now...but it feels like every damn boring ass film they make with these nobodies that call themselves actors...with nothing to offer, get these annoying yearly roles that seem to come out and increase in numbers every year, for dumb ass movies about some secret dumb ass operative

Fine, do a splinter Cell movie and everything you do wrong in it, do right in a Metal Gear movie.

Blacklist is gonna be sickkkk, still pissed they changed the voice actor though. Sam Fischer is prbably around 50 something and in Blacklist he sounds like hes 18.
