"Monsters" Sequel Gets New Director and TitlePosted: June 19th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Back in 2010, director Gareth Edwards released his "Monsters" movie, a low-budget thriller that went on to gross $4 million at the box office, but also impressed lots of major studios. At this point, Edwards is developing the upcoming "Godzilla" reboot for Warners Bros and is also working on a "Monsters" sequel.
Edwards always planned to return to produce, handing over helming duties to Brent Bonacorso and Jesse Atlas, who mostly directed short films in the past. But now comes word that Bonacorso and Atlas are out and Tom Green ("Misfits") has been brought on to replace them.
The sequel is called "Monsters: Dark Continent" and focuses on a teacher who enters the infected zone of the city to find his brother. Now word when filming will begin.

Those critics are dumb.
The Godzilla remake going to be awful.

I really liked it. It's not the sci-fi actioner one might have thought when they started watching it, but it's still quite good. And the with the budget the director worked it looks great too.

Really liked Monsters. Had a great atmosphere. Very intense in places. For a film technically made by about 7-8 people it was god damn impressive, especially for the scale it had. Looking forward to the sequel.

Thank you, Biniwoo and TKD.
I had high hopes for this movie since this movie was a sleeper hit and the critics liked it.
Then I watched it and it turned out to be so awful, I can't believe the director got the job to direct the remake of Godzilla.

"I can't believe the director got the job to direct the remake of Godzilla."
Everyone else they asked was too smart to take the job, including Uwe Boll's chihuahua.

@pornfly
It's a movie hard to recommend without knowing the taste of the person asking.
It's slow. It has a lot of talking, shots of people simply looking up-and-down-and-front-and-back at the camera with a lost look on the face. Visual effects and "Mosnters" themselves are very limited.
But it's a great looking movie (one of the best "found-footage", "DYI-style"), actors are solid, visual effects, whenever employed, are pretty great.
The main love/hate issue is that it's not really a movie about those "Monsters", they serve as a kind of "MacGuffin". They do serve a crucial role in the narrative, but at its core it's a road movie about two "lost souls" and their journey (cheesy, I know) amongst unusual circ*mstances.

I get it KURSKIJ thx
Hollywood markets these films as one thing just to get asses in the seats
Especially when it comes to smaller films that have less control over the advertising aspects of their films
