First Look: James Franco in "The Wizard of Oz" PrequelPosted: June 22nd, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Today we have a look at a promo poster for Sam Raimi's "Wizard of Oz" prequel, called "Oz The Great and Powerful," starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Zach Braff and Abigail Spencer. The movie is set to hit theaters on March 8th, 2013. Check out the poster below.
Plot: When Oscar Diggs (Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking-that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Kunis), Evanora (Weisz) and Glinda (Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting.
Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Really ? This is more straight to video/DVD than The Quick and the Dead. At least The Quick and the Dead had actual actors in it.
The fact that Mila Kunis isn't already doing hardcore, lesbian snuff films boggles the mind.

Well, that wasn't much of a glimpse behind the curtain...
Still, this could be decent, but I do smell a reboot of the original (about f*cking time!) if this one is well-accepted.

How about we have a movie where we pull the curtains back and The Wizard is not behind them but Mila Kunis is there sitting on the toilet. Now that I would watch, and rub 2 or 3 good loads out, in fron of the kiddies at the theatre. Hey who wouldn't do that if that actually happened?

I don't even know this movie even deserves to shoeshine the original's shoes...
I saw the original about 2 months ago on cable & I'd honestly forgotten how strange, effects heavy & how ahead of it's time it was...even making it more complex with the musical numbers (which this one probably wouldn't even have).
The past ones haven't even gotten close...it really was lightning in a bottle.

I know it's not the same story or plot, but still the scope, epic feel, & light hearted, fun filled feel will have to match or surpass the bar of the original...& that bar is really high.

As a kid I remember feeling like the original was so f*cked up and strange that just watching it back then creeped me out. Some strange chick who took a bad acid trip hallucinating about singing men dressed as lions and scarecrows while flying monkeys terrorize them as they walk down some f*cked up Wonderland. Then some sick little old guy at the end is revealed as the crazy f*cker scaring her and everyone else in her acid trip. That kinda sh*t is heavy for a kid.

All the good ones are dark...just think of all the nursery rhymes & kid's stories we grew up on...heavy.
Example: Rockababy on the tree top, when the wind blows the cradle will rock, when the bough breaks the cradle will fall, & the down will come baby, cradle and all

You think the original Wizard of Oz is f*cked up. Try sitting through the original H.R. Pufnstuff movie. Talking flute and all... crazy witch... that's scary sh*t! I wonder what stuff they were puffin' when they created that show?!
