This Friday we will see the return of one of cinema's most infamous serial killers. Hannibal Lecter is back, this time as a little, but not that innocent boy in "Hannibal Rising." After witnessing his family's brutal murder, he vows revenge, and slowly becomes the cultured, refined killer we know. Thomas Harris wrote the screenplay and the novel, which has been named one of the 5 worst of 2006 by Entertainment Weekly.
Your alternative to the grisly thriller is the outrageous comedy "Norbit." The flick will feature Eddie Murphy once again getting into some ridiculous costumes to play three different characters, with the most eye-catching one being the cruel and disturbingly obese Rasputia, who tortures the meek protagonist of the story.
And if you are really seeking an alternative from the standard Hollywood fare, the German film "The Lives of Others" goes into limited release today. It has been praised by critics everywhere for telling a compelling story of a person's moral dilemma when he is forced by the then communist government to spy on a couple in East Germany during the 1980s.
