James Francos Oz: The Great and Powerful PosterSubmit Comment
Disney has unveiled the first poster for Sam Raimi's "Wizard of Oz" prequel, called "Oz The Great and Powerful," starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Zach Braff and Abigail Spencer. The movie is set to hit theaters on March 8th, 2013. Check out the poster below.

Plot: When Oscar Diggs (Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking-that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Kunis), Evanora (Weisz) and Glinda (Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting.

Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Curious to see a trailer for this before I can really say anything. Franco seems to pick interesting roles, as in you never know what he'll be in next. I bet he picks them from a hat, just like the one he wears in this film.

^ Agreed, that last time this guy threw me for a loop, he started doing daytime soap opera playing a villain while he was going to college!

WTF?! LOL...

I think he makes all of his decisions through a strict code of practice. First he starts by wearing his most expensive suit and goes shopping for ice cream and chips. Then goes home and spends the next few hours getting flattened out of his mind on any and all forms of drugs at his disposal and making his acting decisions at the substances peak effectiveness. Followed by consuming said chips and ice cream in quick fashion and then sleeping for the next 36 hours straight

Interesting that Robert Downey Jr. was Sam Raimi's first choice to play the title role of Oz - he would have been great. Then Johnny Depp was considered as well. Glad Franco landed it as I think we have seen enough of Depp play these fantasy characters. Btw, those 3 witches are hot. Franco is one lucky bastard.

Very nice artwork. A little too Lord of the Rings, perhaps, but nice nevertheless. Don't care for the premise, though. I suspect Franco will play a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory role, and that doesn't do me wonders.

Or did LOTRs take from the original Wizard of Oz?

It's difficult to sort out the incestuous web filmmakers weave, sometimes.

Finally, a visually lavish film from the producer of "Alice" and "Snow white and the Huntsman" but with a director that UNDERSTANDS PACING!

I'll give this a chance.

Is it animated?

@Avirex
Agreed. I want to see a trailer first. Hopefully they don't Tim Burton/Johnny Depp the hell out of Oz.
