Actor Ernest Borgnine Dead at 95Submit Comment
Film and television actor Ernest Borgnine, who won an Academy Award for 1955's "Marty," has died at age 95. His manager said Borgnine died of kidney failure Sunday afternoon. His wife, Tova, and children were at his side at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Borgnine made the move to films and then television in 1951, racking up more than 200 credits in projects ranging from the era of live television drama to the children's cartoon "SpongeBob SquarePants."

He starred in the 1962-66 sitcom "McHale's Navy," was one of the original celebrities on the game show "The Hollywood Squares" and played William Holden's right-hand-man in Sam Peckinpah's revisionist Western "The Wild Bunch." He also was a regular on the 1980s television drama "Airwolf" and a frequent guest star on a variety of shows.

In addition to his Oscar for "Marty," Borgnine was nominated for three Emmys -- the most recent in 2009, for a guest spot on the hospital drama "ER" -- and won a life achievement award from the Screen Actors Guild in 2010.

Some of his other credits include "The Poseidon Adventure," "From Hell to Eternity," and "Bad Day at Black Rock."

61 years in the biz!! Relevant from the 50s with an Oscar to today with the kiddies (an adults) making people laugh with the Spongebob cartoons...never stopped working.

How did he do it!? RIP...Hollywood legend indeed.

Wow... Ernie and Karl Malden were 2 special actors. Never go by on their looks (which today is a main prerequisite for Hollywood)... but look what those 2 contributed in their lives.

RIP.

As a kid, on a visit to Universal I stood (in the studio) on the McHale's Navy boat deck... neat memory.

Ranger

Another classic there

Looking at Ernest's movies on IMDB the guy has been in upwards of at least 20 films and TV shows that i love.

Not many of these guys that bridge the hollywood of old and new left now.

This guy was a proper actor.A mans man not like
some of these prima donas today that are in the movie business like shia labeouf or ryan reynolds

And Ernest could act unlike those guys above.

RIP Ernest you will be missed.
