"Dredd" Writer Reveals Sequel IdeasPosted: July 8th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
During the Comic-Con panel for the upcoming "Judge Dredd" remake, called "Dredd," writer Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Never Let Me Go) spoke about potential sequels, revealing his plan for a trilogy and stating that "Dredd" would have to earn $50 million domestically to get more installments.
"We'll see a sequel if the gross is above $50 million in the US," he explained. "In terms of Dark Judges, I wrote Death into this script, but it didn't feel right for the first film. I thought it felt right but after about sixteen drafts, it really didn't work out. I needed to have set up the city and Dredd first before taking on what is essentially a riff on the Judges. You need to know what the Judges are before you can subvert them."
Garland added: "I wrote a second script which was about Dredd going out to the Cursed Earth. That was rejected for similar reasons. If they want to make sequels, I've got a story that goes from this one into the origins of Dredd and the city. Then the third one has would have a strange, existential attack from the Dark Judges."

Sequel? Getting a little ahead of yourself, ain'tcha?
And a trilogy? What's with the trilogy sh*t these days? If you have three films worth of story, fine, but don't force it just because that's the fad.

Garland has written some of the best film stories, though.
So Dredd suddenly doesn't seem that bad (to me). Hope it makes the 50mil., though I doubt it. The sequels sound 100 times more interesting (setting-wise) than the The Raid version in the first one, so I want to see them.

Well, i hope that this movie turns out good, and it makes a profit. The Dark Judges are pretty badass and terrifying. It would be cool to see them on the big screen.

If they are serious, bring back Rob Schneider as the funny sidekick ...
just kidding.
Just bring back Ryan Dunn's maggot ridden corpse as Judge Death.

And that's NOT 'negativity, because I can't think of one film that had that many re-writes and still came out on top.
In fact, I can't think of one absolutely terrible film that had that many re-writes...
