Michael Fassbender to Star in "Assassin's Creed" Video Game MoviePosted: July 10th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Michael Fassbender (Prometheus, X-Men: First Class) has signed on to produce and star in "Assassin's Creed," a big screen adaptation of Ubisoft's video game franchise. "Michael Fassbender was our first choice [to play the hooded hero]," said Ubisoft.
Plot revolves around a man who learns his ancestors were trained assassins after he is kidnapped by a secret organization with ties to the Knights Templar, and sent back in time to retrieve historical artifacts.
"Assassin's Creed" is Ubisoft's biggest franchise, selling over 30 million units since 2007. A third installment in the game franchise will be released on October 30th and is set during the American Revolution. The first two games take place during the Crusades and Ranaissance.
The plan is to hire a writer and director before reaching out to movie studios.

Michael Fassbender is fast becoming one of the action stars this days. I wish he would remake Darkman, a role that was previously played by Liam Neeson. I would love to see him do a Darkman remake.

I guess a Thief adaptation can't be too far behind.

Uh, WRONG. Ubisoft has set up their own production studio, and they're planning at this point to use Sony for distribution and nothing more.

Jackpot. I love the fact Ubisoft is taking almost full creative control. We don't want another Prince of Persia on our hands...

Interesting start thus far. "Ranaissance" When was this period? I know of the Renaissance but never heard that. Was This Plastic's daughters period name?

@BadChad The Ranaissance was a historical period of rapid cultural development whilst running. Not to be confused with the Manaissance (cultural expression using beer and beef jerky) or the Rhinaissannce (a culturally advanced rhino).

I have a funny feeling that Sam Jackson will somehow find his way into this one too...also get Duncan Jones to direct it cause the basic premise of "Source Code" is somewhat similar to the way Animus works in Assassin's Creed series.

This is suprising news.
Michael Fassbender is a great actor, he did a good job as Mangento.
I didn't expected him to be in this kind of movie.
At least Hollywood has done something differently than remaking a classic 80's or 90's movie.
