Peter O'Toole Retires from ActingPosted: July 10th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
79-year-old Oscar-nominated actor Peter O'Toole has announced that after over sixty years of performing, he has decided to retire from acting.
"It is time for me to retire from films and stage. The heart for it has gone out of me: it won't come back," he said. "My professional acting life, stage and screen, has brought me public support, emotional fulfillment and material comfort. It has brought me together with fine people, good companions with whom I've shared the inevitable lot of all actors: flops and hits. However, it's my belief that one should decide for oneself when it is time to end one's stay. So I bid the profession a dry-eyed and profoundly grateful farewell."
Having started out on stage and television in Britain, O'Toole shot to fame in "Lawrence of Arabia," and later led in such iconic films as "Caligula," "Man of La Mancha" and "Goodbye Mr. Chips." More recently, he played the Pope in "The Tudors."
He was nominated for a total of eight Academy Awards, the most recent coming in 2006 for "Venus." While never winning a competitive Oscar, he was bestowed with an honorary statuette in 2003. He won a BAFTA, four Golden Globes, an Emmy and an Olivier Award.

Channing Tatum, Adam Sandler, Kristen Stewart, Tyler Perry, etc. should follow his example and retire immediately.

What a f*cking champ. Well, buddy, after sixty years in the biz, you've earned a little rest and relaxation. Take care, legend.
(and to all the losers like Taters and sh*t Beef trying to fill his shoes, f*ck off.)

What a legend.
The fact that he never got an Oscar and f*cking Reese Witherspoon got one is ridiculous. Monique got one for f*ck's sake!

You've earned it, even in Phantoms you rocked.
Kurskij- Shows you how f*cked up this world is. A fat waste of life can get one just bc she's fat, but a Legend doesn't. Yup f*cked up indeed.

Like Harvey Dent will say in other words: you retire like a hero or you act long enough, only to see yourself become a bad actor!!!!!

Let's not forget "The Night of The Genrals", "Murphy's War" "The Lion in Winter".
One of the very rare actors, like Sir Anthony Hopkins that can be called a living legend while they're still alive. A natural born actor that always gave me a sheer pleasure to watch him or listening to him.
@Kurskij & Bad: Plus one fellas!

He's only 79? He looks like he's in his mid 90s. Still, props to the old codger. Enjoy retirement, sir.
