When "The Hobbit" was first announced, Peter Jackson said that the prequel will be split into two films, but he was considering making a third one that would bridge the events of "The Hobbit" with the beginning of "Lord of the Rings."
Variety says that the big rumor at the San Diego Comic-Con is that Jackson is planning to announce the third installment. But Warner Bros has now revealed that there's no truth to that, stating that there are "no planned or surprise announcements" and that "the plan was always for two."
We still don't know how the second "The Hobbit" film ends and whether there's room for a third movie. But I'm sure if "The Hobbit" is a huge success, the studio will find a way to squeeze a third installment in.
