"Finding Nemo" Director Signs on for SequelPosted: July 18th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Andrew Stanton (John Carter, Finding Nemo, A Bug's Life) has signed on to direct a sequel to Pixar's "Finding Nemo," the 2003 animated movie that he wrote and co-directed with Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3). Victoria Strouse, who wrote the 2008 Black list script "The Apostles of Infinite Love," is writing the script. The plan is to release the film sometime in 2016.
The move may be Stanton's way of returning to safer projects after his live-action debut on "John Carter" caused Disney to lose $200 million. And despite the fact that Pixar has been avoiding sequels, has already developed two more "Toy Story" films, a sequel to "Cars" and is working on sequel to "Finding Nemo" and "Monsters, Inc" (a prequel).
But the studio is also working on new original project, including "The Good Dinosaur" (set for May 30th, 2014), untitled "Mind" project (set for June 19th, 2015), and untitled "Dia De Los Muertos."

Pixar used to be a lean, mean CGI machine. Now they're an assembly line for projects to rectify Disney's poor production choices.
Better get busy Pixar; you have to work for two now, but hey, that's marriage.

I bet Disney threatened to boil Andrew Stanton's entire family and all his friends if he didn't agree to this and make back some of the money he caused them to hemorrhage with John Carter.

Marvel and Pixar are now and will forever be Disney's little hoes. (Disney obviously being the pimp who exploits them).

Is Pixar out of ideas? Do we need a Memo sequel? I really hope Stanton isn't running for safer ground after John Carter. That movie didn't deserve to bomb. Disney did a poor job of promoting it.

I think finding Nemo is one of Pixars best movies in their history, especially the visual look on it since it was made in 2003. No need for a sequel or a triogy to ruin it. Its one of Disneys best.

My Finding Nemo Sequel plot prediction: Nemo, Marlin and Dory rescues the fish tank gang (Gil, Peach, Jacques etc.) after their escape from the dentist office. At the close of Finding Nemo, recall these fish drop into Sydney Harbour in plastic bags and the puffer fish declares “now what?”. Which begins the sequel. The fish in plastic bags are scooped up by nearby hungry seagulls. However none are eaten as a feeding frenzy follows and sharp beaks break the bags thereby allowing the fish to fall back into the ocean. However since none of the fish were from the ocean to begin with and were born into captivity (fish stores, farms etc.) they do not possess the instincts to survive in the wild. Actually Gil was originally from the ocean but the premise could play out that he has spent more time in fish tank captivity that his natural survival skills are greatly diminished – he is shell shocked and not the same effective leader as he was during the tank. The hapless group decides to try and reunite with Nemo as they regard him as a "brother-of-tankhood". On their way they escape harmful Sydney harbor filled with boats and propellers, oil spills, other larger predators etc. And meanwhile Nemo still in school with Professor Ray and all other little fish learns of his tank friend’s journey and tries to convince others to help. When Marlin expresses concern about the mission (again more concerned about Nemo’s safety), a headstrong Nemo leaves which causes Marlin, Dory and others to follow. The plot borrows similar ideas from Finding Nemo except this time its Nemo who leads the charge to locate his friends – with his reluctant Father and Dory in tow. The “Finding” or search theme is key to the first movie and it makes sense to look for other characters we already know and love.
Yes I've watched Finding Nemo way too many times (one of my kids favs). And I've often wondered what sequel idea would make sense.

Brad Bird says he's still working on the story idea for Incredibles 2, but given the time he;s had to make the sequel, I don't think he's much into it, and there's obviously not much pressure from Pixar or Disney.
And the Finding Nemo sequel isn't a sure thing. In fact, it may be rumor.
From Stanton's Twitter:
"Didn't you all learn from Chicken Little? Everyone calm down. Don't believe everything you read. Nothing to see here now."
