Back in 2009, Sam Raimi confirmed that he will direct a "World of Warcraft" movie from a script by Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan, The Patriot). He later stated that he was forced to abandon "Spider-Man 4" because the film was taking too long to get off the ground and he contractually had to begin work on "World of Warcraft."
But when "Spider-Man" was rebooted, Raimi didn't jump right into "World of Warcraft." Instead, he signed on for "Oz: The Great and Powerful." And now, Raimi has revealed that he's no longer directing the video game film, stating: "They don't have me directing 'World of Warcraft' anymore because when I took the 'Oz' job, they had to move on to another director. They had to start making it."
The obvious bad news is that Raimi is out, but the good news is that Blizzard Entertainment is still eager to make the film happen. There's currently no word on who will replace Raimi. Stay tuned.

WoW, who cares? Why does Hollywood feel the need to make a movie of every slightly popular thing? "Hey, guys, you know that game Battleship?". Just leave this alone, it's gonna be bad no matter who's directing it.

The article in question is tautological, in that it doesn't actually explain why Saimi never did the World of Warcraft film. He says he did OZ instead, so, did the Warcraft film not go to production in time? Was in development hell? Did he want more money?
Seems like an important thing to explain the why with the what.
