Bane Co-Creator on Character's Portrayal in "The Dark Knight Rises"

Bane Co-Creator on Characters Portrayal in The Dark Knight RisesSubmit Comment
After the success of "The Dark Knight," Warner Bros was pressuring Christopher Nolan to use The Riddler as the villain in the follow-up. But the character was too similar to The Joker and Nolan wanted to give Batman a villain who would challenge him physically. This is why Bane was used.

The character already appeared in "Batman and Robin," but Bane co-creator Chuck Dixon says the filmmakers got the villain's portrayal completely wrong. "They had him as almost an imbecile, when in the comics he is extremely smart," he said.

Dixon added: "I am beyond glad that Nolan had the juice in Hollywood to stick to his guns. From interviews I've seen, it's clear he understands the character and he gets what we were going for. It's not exactly what I created, but he's physically imposing and Tom Hardy is one hell of an actor. I can't imagine Bane being better portrayed."

Basically, he's saying Bain still isn't nearly as intellectual in the film as he'd like but yet he realizes this is the best portrayal Hollywood will ever be capable of. He's just happy it wasn't as bad as 'Batman and Robin'. That's my impression anyway.

I f*cking loved Bane in The Movie but, BUT, BUT!!!
they completely brushed him off at the end. Like really? I felt they just just used him and didn't even show what the hell happened to him at the end.

@Han0, agreed but that seemed a theme in the whole series. Ra's death in BB, Two Face in TDK it was left open whether in fact they did perish.
I read somewhere that Dent might have survived but they held him in Arkam and told the world he had died to preserve his white knight legacy. And Ra's was supposed to be immortal.

Two portrayals, then. One atrocious, one not so atrocious. His opinion doesn't surprise me then. Next.

I think he pulled it off very well, I do like Tom Hardy's range of acting, impressive! Check out Bronson to see him in a very crazy role :)

My only problem with Bane was his voice. Yes, people complained that he was incomprehensible, but if you just LISTENED, then you'd be able to understand him. The final cut of his voice made it sound like he was dubbed...terribly. Plus, when Bane was on top of the Tumbler in front of the prison, seemed like Hardy was over-acting when he was trying to show emotion without actually moving his mouth.

But, then again, those are all mostly issues with the public more than anything. Otherwise, he was perfect.

*his ending was a little abrupt too.
