Christopher Eccleston is Main Villain in "Thor" Sequel

Christopher Eccleston is Main Villain in Thor SequelSubmit Comment
About two weeks ago, a stuntman revealed that the upcoming "Thor" sequel, called "Thor: The Dark World, will feature elves. It was clear he was talking about the Dark Elves, which are lead by Malekith the Accursed, a major Thor villain. Deadline is now reporting that Christopher Eccleston (GI Joe: Rise of Cobra) will play Malekith.

In "Thor" comic book #344, Loki forms an alliance with Malekith in order to secure the Casket of Ancient Winters, which is an artifact from the realm of the Frost Giants and a powerful and deadly weapon. When opened, it releases powerful arctic weather that is capable of freezing anything in its path; killing humans and immobilizing Asgardians.

Tom Hiddleston has already confirmed that he's returning as Loki. The sequel is set to hit theaters on November 8th, 2013.

Ah, the creep from 28 Days Later...

If Loki is part of the plot here, then how does that work with The Avengers timeline? I thought that was set after Thor 2 (hence his ability to get back to Earth)?

No offense to Eccleston, but I was expecting someone a little bit outside the box...like Hiddleston's Loki.

Eccleston already did his baddie piece in GONE IN 60 SECONDS...hopefully it'll be a fresh take than same old Baddie 101 movie.

Loki the villain again, boring

@Damon242

No, Avengers is set before Thor 2. You may have missed the line in Avengers where Loki says, "Odin helped you get back to Earth? That must have taken a great deal of power."

The rainbow bridge is still destroyed and will continue to be destroyed in Thor 2.

"Ah, the creep from 28 Days Later..."

And the creep from Gone in 60 Seconds, and the creep from GI JOE, and the creep from...dude's pretty much role-cast at this point, and the sneering, leering accent doesn't help lend him to more protagonistic roles, either.

As for the actual news...meh. Thor was fun, but forgettable.

Marvel needs a little of that seriousness going on that Nolan has exploited. Reboot Punisher and make it good and dark and serious. That way, I can say that not everything Marvel machine-shops has smooth corners and gleaming edges. Give me something with angular chops and a murky patina. Something with shocking bite.

Mads Mikkelsen was the better choice before dropping out.

The studio will put it's hands all over this anyway, like Chris Brown on Rihanna after he finds her f*cking someone else.

This sounds like a sitcom
Every Thor movie will be Loki partnering up with some neighboring villian to get the throne

Like a He-Man cartoon with the end of every movie Loki yelling THORRR!

Alternate ending:
Freeze frame shot of Thor and the gang in mid-laughter to the Magnum P.I. theme song
