"World of Warcraft" Movie Hires "Blood Diamond" WriterPosted: August 3rd, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Sam Raimi recently revealed that he is no longer planning to direct a big screen version of Blizzard's "World of Warcraft" video game. But Legendary Entertainment (Man of Steel, Pacific Rim) is still eager to get the film made and has now hired Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond, K-PAX) to write the latest script.
Even though the film has lost its director, Blizzard head Bobby Kotick is still excited about the new movie, stating that "[it's] important to Blizzard, it's important to me. [Legendary is] very excited about having a 'World of Warcraft' film. They've been very careful and thoughtful about the development process."
Legendary is now searching for Raimi's replacement with hopes of officially greenlighting the film in the next few months. Meanwhile, the studio is also working on an adaptation of the "Mass Effect" video game.

A movie based on a game for nerds who supplant fantasy computer heroines with actual girlfriends. Maybe they can bring Jackson aboard to make a goddamn quadrilogy or whatever.
They wanna make a REAL computer game movie? Monkey Island. Nuff said.

^^I think I was first to mention Monkey Island, and I would also add Maniac Mansion and probably any of the old heavily story driven LucasArts games in there was well, but unfortunately, the licensing on those is pretty screwed up IIRC.
As for the news, why the f*ck doesn't Blizzard just flip their studio sideways? They have the talent to build the visual guts required for a CGI film, so why not outsource whatever else they need and do the film themselves? Start with a HQ, HD machinima movie to test the demand before they let some studio sink 200 million or whatever into another video game box-office bomb.
