Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" to be a Quirky Space Comedy?Posted: August 3rd, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Marvel already announced that it set "Guardians of the Galaxy" for an August 1st, 2014 release. And now comes word that the studio has hired Chris McCoy to re-write the script for the movie, which is being called a "space adventure."
McCoy doesn't have much of a resume, but is currently hot right now for writing three scripts that landed on the Black List, which is a list of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. His scripts have been praised for being "comedic and quirky," which is likely part of the reason for his hiring.
"Guardians of the Galaxy" includes such characters as Drax the Destroyer, a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos (the villain in "The Avengers" post-credits scene); Groot, a giant tree-man; Star-Lord, a gun-toting half-human/half-alien intergalactic vigilante; Rocket Raccoon, a genetically engineered animal with a knack for guns and explosives; and Gamora, the last survivor of her species who was saved by Thanos to be his assassin but now battles him.

If you have man-tree and a gun-toting animal in your movie, then you have to go the quirky and comedic route. There's just no other way.

They have a racoon with a frickin' gun. Doesn't get more comedic than that.

Please don't. Just take yourself serious and have humor. That's all it needs for a good film.

This could be done on a serious true science fiction level with some humor. If they go straight comedy it is because they are cowards and have no faith in their product.
Why do it if your going to f*ck it up?

*Cue corny joke about about squirrels and nuts somewhere in the film*

I just hope the finished product actually looks like the concept art for once.

Boggiel said it.
Rocket Racoon. Either I'm that depraved (I am) or this is looney toones stuff.
Bunny - any day, but there's no Peter Weller here.

Mmmm, not really sure about taking this route. It could be a massive hit or a big letdown for Marvel geeks.

Come on. Where else would you find a Norse god next to a man dressed in an American flag next to a big red and gold robot, standing next to a gigantic green thing, next to a one-eyed black guy who isn't trying to a) bang the hot white bitch or b) steal something.
As for the news, sounds good. I just hope they get the characterizations spot on. Other than that, looks to be a damned good fantasy romp.

Considering Guardians of The Galaxy comics are pretty depressing at times, I'm surprised to see how they do this comically.
I predict it will be on Avenger's level, with quips and jokes every few minutes, even though I'd prefer if they kept it in the vein of Star Trek, which isn't far off, since they were both produced by Paramount.
