The latest "black man in a fat woman costume" comedy proved that the genre is still alive and strong. "Norbit," which features superstar Eddie Murphy in several incredible costumes, including one for the obese and cruel antagonist of the story, Rasputia, came out on top of the box-office chart after bringing in a fantastic $33.7 million.
"Hannibal Rising," with the relatively unknown Gaspard Ulliel taking on the role of the infamous cannibal, came in second with $13.4 million. The prequel, which reduces the legendary killer to exactly the type of psychological cliché he would have mocked in the films of the past, has received atrocious reviews across the board.
The estrogen-crammed comedy "Because I Said So," with Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore, actually fared quite well in its second week of release, only slipping one spot to number three after making $9.04 million. The flick's two-week total now stands at $25.6 million.
Last week's number one, the horror flick "The Messengers," fell to fourth place after securing another $7.2 million. It has made a total of $24.7 million thus far.
For the eighth straight week, "Night at the Museum" managed to remain in the top 5. The blockbuster comedy, which made $5.75 million over the weekend, has now amassed a whopping $232 million.
