Bane's Origin Scenes Were Cut from "The Dark Knight Rises"Posted: August 8th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
  As with the Joker, Christopher Nolan didn't really give us much of a background for Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises." But according to the film's costume designer Lindy Hemming, the plan was to have several scenes that would have given us a look at Bane's beginnings.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
"The thing that you should have seen is [Bane] being injured in his youth," she explained. "So one of the fundamental things about his costume is that he has this scar from the back injury. Even if he hasn't got the bulletproof vest on, he still has to wear the waist belt and the braces. In that scene in the prison, where he's learning to fight the same way Batman learned to fight, he's wearing an early version of his waist belt. It's showing support, but it's not the finished one he eventually wears. He's also wearing an early version of his gas mask, all glued together."
Hemming continued: "If you look at the film, unless they've cut [the scene], there's a whole early section for Tom Hardy where he's fighting and being taunted by people. He's got chains on him, and he's standing on a wooden thing while people are attacking him. And in that scene, he's wearing a much more ragged, primitive version of the mask."
When she's told that the scene was cut, Hemming replied: "Well that's an awful shame. I won't elaborate on it too much, but there was another section that showed you why he had the mask and where it came from."

Eh. Less is more. People have imaginations, they can fill in the gaps. Besides, any more TDKR and you'd have to install toilets under the theater seats. Not that you'd feel like sh*tting anyway.

It looks like there was a lot cut from the film...
@Mink
Using one's imagination is fine, but it should be so by design and certainly not relied upon for a story to make sense. Such as, "imagination" isn't a suitable resolution to the issue regarding how Bruce returns to Gotham from the prison, or how he escapes the blast radius at the end considering the shot of him still in the c*ckpit within the last second.
I can't help but think of Prometheus, in regards to this issue.
A lot of writers nowadays don't understand when it's appropriate to use audience-interpretation in order to enrich the experience of the narrative. The key is that the narrative should be able to flow, make sense, and stand on its own - without the interpretation. Generally, it should be character-related but not plot-related, and there should be material there to chew on.
And personally, I could think of a few things in TDKR that could have been cut to make the film flow better, and I'm sure that when I eventually watch the director's cut (IF there's a directors cut; Nolan's previous work featured scenes in their trailers and photos that do not show in the film, and are still unseen by the public years after their home-release).

The could have made this film better by cutting out more than that....everything from the point before Bane speaks to the scene where Catwoman mounts the bike, then everything after it.... what a joke that film was, if I was Hardy i would have had my name removed from the credits..... worst voice over, dialogue, and ending to an otherwise great set of films....
Personally less of Bane in this film would have made it better.... but that could have also been said about the Batman too :(

@afterkwiss what makes you think that Batman is dead? why are trying to make more out of this, Brucey baby is tapping that Cat-ass with Alfred watching. This is not Inception (this is obvious), if it was a figment of senility due to his years of enduring long service and his age why would Nolan have included the scene about the Autopilot being fixed???? he wouldn't (not going to point out the stupidness of that in the story as there was SO many stupid points throughout the film)
End of film stands! Batman had an 8 1/2 year career faked his own death, used magic slate cleaning virus program thingy, then went out in public to have some coffee! wtf!
