Bob Hoskins Retires from Acting

Posted: August 8th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Bob Hoskins Retires from ActingSubmit Comment
Bob Hoskins has announced today that he is retiring from acting. He made the decision following his diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. "[Bob] wishes to thank all the great and brilliant people he has worked with over the years, and all of his fans who have supported him during a wonderful career," said a statement. "[He] is now looking forward to his retirement with his family, and would greatly appreciate that his privacy be respected at this time."

Hoskins began his career in 1972 with a part in the British series "Villains," and broke out on the big screen as a gangster in 1980's "The Long Good Friday." He earned a Golden Globe and BAFTA, as well as an Oscar nomination, for his leading role in 1986's" Mona Lisa"; while what may prove to be his most memorable role, as Eddie Valiant in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", came in 1988.

69-year-old Hoskins is also known for his roles in such movies as "Hook," "Super Mario Bros," "A Christmas Carol" and "Snow White and the Huntsman."

Strange that Micheal J. Fox got his PD so early in life. Must be at least a strong genetic co-factor involved...

Good luck, Mr. Hoskins.

You were always a delight to watch even if you managed to star in some baaad movies.

Long Good Friday will always be a personal favorite and a landmark.

Another Great with a single Oscar nomination.

f*ck you for Monique, dear Academy.

It's sad he's sick. Life is a cruel, smelly, bitch (you only have to look at October_Midnight's photo to know that).

Wow.

That says a lot about real actors and this new generation.

Bob Hoskins will retire because of a life changing illness ...
and Lindsay Lohan won't overdose and save the world from lousy acting.

Sad to hear, what a talent though. Why are the good actors going and we're getting left with the sh*t actors? The world has to be ending soon!!

Great actor. Really liked him in Roger Rabbit and his small roles in Brazil and Enemy at the Gates.

I hope he got a farewell piece of Kristen's ass while on Snow White and the Huntsman set.

@Mink

I actually just saw Michael J. Fox today, his daughter is going to attend UPenn where I work. He didnt look too bad at the time but I agree, it is a damn shame he got it so early. Gonna miss seeing Bob, great actor.

You could tell he was slowing down taking jobs closer to home near London.

But that's how someone that has passion & pride for his work does it...with dignity and at a (relative) high point in his career with everyone's respect of his abilities, not his roles.

Reminds me of that poetic, inspiring phrase of the well known wrestling meathead, Triple H, when he said, "I will do this (wrestling), and do it and do it, and do it until I can do it no more..." Or something like that...I had a pretty good buzz when I heard it.

Shame, thanks for the good memories, Bob, "Vaya con Dios, muchacho..."

Hey, now that its mentioned, in UNLEASHED, there was Jet Li's love interest as this geeky, schoolgirl that looked really dorky, but hot!! That schoolgirl outfit really did it for me...RROOAAWWR...I guess.

He was great in 'Shattered' - a very underrated thriller from 1991 which has one of the biggest twists in film's history.

Kurskij

Agree on The Long Good Friday mate, Sits along side Michael Caine's Get Carter at the very top of British cinema.

And the scene where he stabs Derek Thompson on the boat is still one of the most intense and shocking scenes i've ever seen, Brilliant.

Maybe that's because Michael also has Parkison's and Mink was stating how much later in life it has affected Bob and why that might be.
