"The Bourne Legacy" Tops Box Office Weekend with $40 MillionPosted: August 12th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Jeremy Renner's "The Bourne Legacy" grossed $40 million during its opening weekend, which is slightly less than Universal Pictures was hoping for. But is enough for the studio to move forward with a sequel. Compared to previous installments "Legacy" wasn't able to surpass either "The Bourne Supremacy" ($52.5 million) or "The Bourne Ultimatum ($69.2 million).
The new movie cost $125 million to make and is already on its way to make that money back domestically. But it is also expected to perform well overseas. "The Bourne Legacy" has a 53% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
"The Campaign" comedy, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, took second place with $27.4 million, which is higher than Warner Bros was expecting. The movie cost less than $60 to produce, which means that it's already on its way to become profitable. It has a 67% fresh rating.
The other wide release of the weekend, "Hope Springs," ended up in fourth. The comedy, starring Tommy Lee Jones, Meryl Streep and Steve Carell crossed $15.6 million, which is roughly what Sony says they paid for the film. It has a 74% fresh rating.
"The Dark Knight Rises" settled for third place with another $19.5 million, bringing it's worldwide total to $835 million. Meanwhile, "Total Recall" remake continues to struggle. The film dropped to sixth place in its second weekend, bringing in only $8.1 million. It has only grossed $44 million domestically, despite costing $125 million make.

Just got out of this sh*tty movie.
Boy was it sh*tty.
Renner was ok, and it was better than Colin f*cking Ferrell running around for 2.5 hours, but all in all it was rather forgettable, unlike all 3 other Bourne movies.

It's amazing. This site and so many others have been scoured for info on the dkr. Now it's over with, all that's to talk about are sh*t movies like recall and the reboot legacy. Until the next Nolan associated project ( funnily enough superman) there's no real anticipation for anything floating my boat.
