"The Wolverine" to Have Less MutantsPosted: August 13th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
One of the first things Darren Aronofsky said when he signed on to direct a follow-up to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" that it will not be a sequel. Aronofsky has since dropped out, but director James Mangold kept some of the ideas. And now comes word from Hugh Jackman, that "The Wolverine" will be a standalone film.
"We've deliberately not called it 'Wolverine 2' because we want it to feel like a standalone picture," he explained. "With an all-new cast and setting it in Japan, it's going to give us a whole new visual aesthetic. The approach to character means we won't be overloaded with mutants and teams, so it'll be more character-based. I think in many ways it will feel like a completely different 'X-Men' film."
The new movie co-stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee, and is set to hit theaters on July 26th, 2013.

Every X-Men movie has been a stand alone Wolverine picture. Why would this be any different?

Its already being rebooted aye? Mangold is a good director hopefully he will be more faithful to the character and story of wolverine. But honestly. I always though Henry Rollins would have made a better wolverine

Less mutants?! Badass!! The need to show new mutants always dragged down the plot, like in ORIGINS, IMO...
I'm still iffy of Mangold's ability to knocking this movie out of the park...making it good, yes...making it a fanboy favorite?...meh. Can't wait for the trailer, though!!
I'm also still a fan of Wolverine's costume, really wanting to see it on the big screen. I'd have a geekgasm if in the samurai plot, he'd choose a fighting attire similar to that of the comics, preferably the brown & tan one...maybe some Japanese influence on it (I'd pass on the "look-at-me" yellow/ balck stripes).
But think about it.... 4 Wolverine movies without his costume? Unheard of!!

How about they leave Wolverine out of this and don't bother making it?

Wow good thing he doesn't direct porn .... there would be less f*cking . This is a bad idea. They wouldn't have to have a huge amount of character development just some cameos of different mutants that would have been around in that time .

I have a good feeling about this except it aint going to be near as good as it was going to turn out to be if Aronofsky had taken it.

this could very well be the old addage
"less is best"
i like that it will concentrate more directly at wolverine without other mutant(s) stories getting in the way like that x-men origins sh*t fest

They need more white people to play all of those Japanese characters! I mean, we are making a Hollywood film right? There's no room for Asians here.

One film in, and they're already rebooting the 'franchise'?
As for the mutants, that's cool. I suspect this will be a character driven movie, then, and the character doing the driving is Wolverine, which is probably what fans of decent comic-book films and fans of Wolverine alike would want.
