"Daredevil" Goes Back to Marvel, Joe Carnahan Unveils His Video Pitch

Daredevil Goes Back to Marvel, Joe Carnahan Unveils His Video PitchSubmit Comment
20th Century Fox and Marvel has yet to release an official statement, but the "Daredevil" right are reverting back to Marvel after Fox's request for an extension has been rejected. Fox was supposed to go into production on a new "Daredevil" movie by October 10th.

It seemed like the studio had a chance of getting the film off the ground in time after director Joe Carnahan (The Grey, The A-Team) presented a pitch for his version. Unfortunately, Fox rejected it.

Carnahan revealed on Twitter that his "pitch was tremendous and everyone flipped for it." He added that Fox simply ran out of time, which is why he won't be able to direct a "Daredevil" movie. And now that the film is dead, he decided to post two versions (NC-17 and PG-13) of his pitch online. Check them both out below.

NC-17 Version:

PG-13 Version:

"Can you dig it?" Awesome! If Marvel doing this right, this can be marvel's answer to Nolan's Batman.

I remember back in 2006 when a mixture of random clips pretending to be something else was acceptable and almost amusing. This is 2012 though, don't be a cheap f*ck and pick up a RED camera or at least a cheap ass DSLR and make your own footage. Especially if your pitching this to an actual studio.

I'm glad that sh*t didn't get made.

That was the laziest pitch I've even seen. How do you make a pitch for a new film by just using clips from the old film and adding new music? But hey, I loved The Grey and The A-team so f*ck it give Joe a chance.

Where the hell is that Norrington guy that directed the first Blade film? I'd love to see his stlye behind this material.

Now if Marvel could just get back pretty much everything else from FOX, which is where I think they want to go, long term anyway, I'd be as happy as a pig in sh*t, which is to say, I'd be Chase's lover's d*ck in his ass. Metaphorically speaking.

There next to no time to for this film to be made. Plus why would Joe was his time getting a camera, planning out shots and then filming it when the studio had less than two months and the future looked unlikely? The random clip sizzle reel was a good option. Plus the use of comics and awesome 70s flicks was tops and the right direction that Daredevil needed. It would be similar to Nolan's Batman but probably more real and gritty. Plus any guy who loves the Warriors gets an A+ in my books.

As much as Mark Steven Johnson/Affleck's Daredevil is slammed, it is still the most prevailent image of DD that sticks in our minds of the hero on screen. I for one didn't mind it and found myself enjoying parts even if it was Affleck. Its no wonder Carnahan used some of this footage for his Fox pitch. As a DD fan since Gene Colon and Frank Miller days, I liked the street grit, gangster hits, crime filth, street prostitution, high power court room drama that is close associated with DD. And I can sense this is what Carnahan was trying to convey. Great that Marvel has taken back their property which they can develop and hopefully not rush production. It is easy to see how DD story can be unravelled similar to the way Nolan presented TDK/Bruce Wayne. The two characters have a lot in common. But I trust Marvel to do it right. Carnahan should walk across the street to Marvel's offices and try his pitch there as I'm sure they would be interested. The Grey and A-Team were good films in their own right. So yes, SAC, give Joe a chance.
