Michael J. Fox Returns to TV in New SeriesPosted: August 16th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Michael J Fox is ready to return to prime-time television with a new sitcom that will be directed by Will Gluck (Easy A) and written by Sam Laybourne ("Cougar Town," "Arrested Development." It's being developed by Sony Pictures Television and will air next year.
It's unclear what the show will be about, but NY magazine says that it will be inspired by Fox's own life. At this point, all four major networks have heard the pitch, and insiders claim that there is a "feeding frenzy" that will result in a "bidding war." The show is basically guaranteed to happen, Fox just needs to pick the network he wants to work with.
The "Back to the Future" actor remained popular with fans over the years, despite going into semi-retirement. He's also had plenty of success on the small screen with such shows as NBC's "Family Ties" and ABC's "Spin City."

He's bored. Maybe the wife is nagging him. The $ never hurts (unless you're taking it up the ass like Shia LaDouche).

Wouldn't have thought this would be possible if I barns't seen his Curb Your Enthusiasm episode from a season ago. That was funny as sh*t and he was great in it. I'll check out his next venture for sure.

"barns't"
You have some big fingers, bro.
Anyway, he must either be on a very high level of pharmacological management, or he's had some surgery, because by this point, the only work he should be able to get would be marguerita mixer at Chili's.

He said a few months ago he has found a new medication that has been working wonders controlling his ticks. He feels he is able to return to acting full time with minimal distractions. Also i dont beleive an operation is an option anymore. He already had brain sugery and had a piece of his brain killed/removed and further attempts would be risky. It stabalized him for a few more years in the 90's. My hope is he is able to return to a relatively normal life. Not just for him but for his family.
If anyone in hollywood deserved a successful normal career it would be this guy. Who knows, maybe if all goes well with this he will return for films as well. Maybe the two Bob's will rethink they're position on Back to the Future 4 now that he may be available. The main reason stated by them for not making it was that no one would want to see it without fox. A man can dream right??

That's great. We could use a new Back to the Future before it's too late.

There will never be a BTTF4, as long as Bob Zemeckis has anything to say about it. Of course, the studio could tell him to f*ck off and do it themselves; it's their property, but they wouldn't be doing it with him at the helm (or writing it, either)....

@mustard. mink and myself have already touched on this subject at length. Back to the future is universals property but a new film cannot move forward without approval from both bob gale and bob zemekis. They have said they wouldnt do another since fox couldnt. However i do believe at least gale has interest in continuing the franchise.
Gale co-wrote the story for a recent episodic game by telltale games based on the series. It took place after the events of the trilogy. He was very excited about it in all the interviews and the game drew involvement from many principals of the films including christopher lyoid and fox.
So clearly gale has at least some interest in continuing the franchise. I know through various interviews that lyoid is still interested in reprising his role(also he seems to jump at the chance for mexican companys, video games, microsoft keynote's- look that last one up its hilarious). So if gale could come up with an idea and convince zemekis to at least sign off on it if not participate himself then thats best case scenario.
I think if done right it could be a good addition to the series. They could make it deal with how 2015 didnt turn out like in part two and what may have happened to change it. Theres plenty of comedy there already for a jumping off point.

Back to The Future 4? Really unlikely...Tom "Biff" Wilson wouldn't be back anyway. He doesn't show up at the BTTF reunions.
On interviews, BTTF was his film debut, but was underpaid compared to the stars. Also after the movies, he's into standup and painting, but has voiced being hounded on appearances by hardcore fans asking him the same questions over and over and over...
To be appreciative and to make fun of the subject he even wrote a song about it...

@vincere01, that's all well and good, but based on my conversations with Bob Zemeckis, I doubt it will ever happen. He's pretty strongly against the idea, and I think he's got good reason for it. He sees what Steven Speilberg and George Lucas have done to treasured franchises by extending them- basically ruining the massive amount of goodwill they originally had- and he doesn't want to do that with BTTF.

@mustard why do i find it hard to beleive that an oscar winning film director would be good enough friends to talk about his personal franchise that im sure he has left behind for so long to someone who frequents such a fine website as this. If its true then good for you....but it smells to high heaven to me.

@vincere01- while Bob and I certainly aren't besties, I was an additional editor on the upcoming Denzel Washington film 'Flight', plus I've cut two doc*mentaries with his wife. So I've spent a decent amount of time stuck in an edit bay with the guy. Our kids have had playdates together. And he's pretty open about talking about sh*t like that.
