It was recently confirmed that Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" prequels will be a trilogy of films. With so much footage on screen, Benedict Cumberbatch wanted to let fans know exactly when we'll see Smaug the dragon, a character that Cumberbatch provided the voice and motion-capture for.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
"I think my eye might open at the end of the first film and then you’ll get the rest of me in the second," he revealed.
"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is set to hit conventional and IMAX theaters on December 14th. "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" will follow on December 13th, 2013. And the third installment will come in the summer of 2014.

What a waste of time! How is this any different than having Gollum's eyes appear in the first movie just to see him fully appear in the second movie? Same with Sauron's appearance which is only at the opening in the first movie. What a ripoff!
