Ken Watanabe to Star in Japanese Remake of "Unforgiven"Posted: August 20th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Ken Watanabe (Inception) has signed on for a Japanese remake of "Unforgiven" to be made by Warner Entertainment Japan. He will take a role played by Clint Eastwood. The new film is called "Yurusarezaru Mono (A Thing That Can't Be Forgiven)" and will be directed by Lee Sang-Il (Hula Girls, Villain). The plan is to start shooting in the fall for a 2013 release.
Watanabe will play a samurai with a violent past, who lives on Japan's northern island of Hokkaido with his Ainu (the aboriginal people of the island) wife, but is brought out of retirement for one last job.
Koichi Sato (The Magic Hour) will play the Gene Hackman role, while veteran Akira Emoto (Villain) will take the part played by Morgan Freeman in the multi-Academy Award-winning original.

Even this one doesn't need a remake, having a remake of the Seven Samurais, it's more logical that Japanese wants the retribution with the American version of this one. By the way, Watanabe excellent choice cast for this one......

Unforgiven is a great film. I remember seeing it in the theatre 20 years ago, and afterwards didn't know how to react to it. It was such a different western than what Eastwood had done previously(The Outlaw Josey Wales and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly are my fave Westerns). Very dark and grim, and beautifully shot by Eastwood. The scene where the kid is crying to Eastwood about killing a man, while the woman slowly makes her way by horse out to them is one of my favorite scenes ever

The score, by Lennie Niehaus, was even better than the film.
"Unfolgiven" - Not sure if I like it.
