Is "Top Gun 2" Dead?Posted: August 20th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
  Right before news broke that director Tony Scott took his own life, it was reported that Tom Cruise was in Fallon, Nevada doing research for the "Top Gun" sequel. The actor was talking to Navy officials and visiting the Naval Air Station Fallon.
The film was planned as a reunion for Cruise, Scott and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. But now that Scott is gone, there's a good chance that none of the other parties would want to proceed with a sequel. Some believe the only way "Top Gun 2" will happen now is if Ridley Scott (Tony's brother) decides join the team and make the film in honor of Tony.
Cruise was hoping to start shooting "Top Gun 2" before returning for "Mission: Impossible 5."
Question: Do you want "Top Gun 2" to continue without Tony Scott?

I believe what it dies, it should stay dead, don't bring it or resurrected because maybe is not gonna have the same potential and vision than its original creator..... Just take a look at Kubrick's demise in A. I. And how in the end it turns out with Spielberg's vision. Not even approximate of what Kubrick wanted for this one.

"Is "Top Gun 2" Dead?"
- What, and miss out on the opportunity of cashing in off of the guy's death? Yeah, right.
The f*cking movie is now more alive than ever!
$100 says the producers will speed up the movie to make it in time for the first year anniversary of Tony's death.

O yea like PP said, they'll speed it up b/c the cash cows can cash in on Tony's death. It'll be utter sh*t, but they don't care.

Now Tom can concentrate on following up another 80's classic, Risky Business. Its 30 years later and he's still running prostitutes out of mom and dads place.

I think the idea of ridley steppin in and everyone doing it in trbute would be interesting. I think it would give everyone extra incentive to make it best they can. However with that said i dont see it as ridley's style. Hes already producing. I think unfortunately this one is dead, as far as scott and cruise go. Theres always a small chance though so who knows? There has been a bunch of preproductio done and scripting. So maybe if another big director steps up and can convince everyone else to go forward in tribute it could happen. I hope so

@Ranger - Tom Thumb...the movie - LOL!
I can see Bruckheimer direct this one. Why not, he has the miltary connections in life to make it happen. I think for Ridley this may be a more painful ordeal that he might not wish to bear. I'm sure we will hear over the next short while how Ridley wants to remember his brother's life and the films he created. Top Gun type films are not really Ridley's style.

I think it would be proper if Ridley did it.
After all, he has worked with both Bruckheimer (Black Hawk Down) and Cruise (Legend) before and we know he can hadle the action. It would also be a fitting way to honor Tony just like Spielberg did by making A.I. after Kubrick passed away.
