Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" Films May Be DeadPosted: August 21st, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
"The Dark Tower" has everything going for it. It's a Stephen King property, directed by Oscar-winner Ron Howard, written by Oscar-winner Akiva Goldsman, and produced by Oscar-winner Brian Grazer. But Universal Pictures turned down the chance to finance what would have been three films and two limited TV series due to budget concerns.
The project was kept alive when Universal decided to let the filmmakers shop it around to other studios. Warner Bros quickly came forward as an interested party. Filming was scheduled for the first quarter of 2013, but now comes word that the studio has officially passed as well.
This doesn't mean that the project is dead, but with no other studio expressing interest, there is a good chance that "The Dark Tower" won't happen for a while.
Right before this news, it was reported that Russell Crowe stepped up to replace Javier Bardem as the gunslinger Roland Deschain. Crowe previously worked with Howard on "A Beautiful Mind."

Viggo would have been the best choice. Russell is starting to join the Sam Jackson club...

Russell Crowe as Roland? f*ck me, man, talk about miscast. Had a friendly discussion with someone on here, who suggested William Fichtner for Roland, which I couldnt see right away, but having read all the books now, I totally see it.
