Disney Cancels Henry Selick's Animated Film, Loses $50 Million

Disney Cancels Henry Selicks Animated Film, Loses $50 MillionSubmit Comment
Disney recently admitted that it lost $200 million on "John Carter." And to avoid losing hundreds of millions again, the studio has decided to end development of its new stop-motion film that was directed by Henry Selick (Coraline, The Nightmare Before Christmas).

Disney ended production, despite the fact that it already spent $50 million on it. The studio would rather take a loss than continue putting money into a project that was behind schedule and one that they didn't believe in.

The movie was set to hit theaters on October 4th, 2013. Very little is known about the plot, but Selick is free to shop it to other studios.

That was pretty dumb

People love those movies and besides Monkeybone the guy has a decent track record

Track record speaks for it's self...the dumbasses.

It's not like this Selick was, you know, trying his hand in a medium he hadn't tried before like going into a live action retread of a plot from an old book with a balloned budget...or something like that.

Selick was clearly in his element. It's not his fault Stanton gamble didn't pay off...it's the suits f*cking fault for not putting a cap on that project...200 mill into anything is a HUGE red flag.

...and Monkeybone wasnt this guys fault,it was that friggin troglodyte Fraser and his hairplugs

Hey Disney if you wanna throw money away I have a very willing bank account you can throw some into ;)

Whoever runs that company is a bloody idiot and he should be sacked already! "They didn't believe" in that project and yet they spent $50 mil on it!? Blimey, the worst financial management in the business I've heard in a longtime.

@ Porn - Lol. Fraser hasn't been in really anything I would consider great. Exceptions: School Ties (he still walked like an ape), and Crash. Wasn't a Mummy fan- only watched it for hot Rachel Weiz.

As for Disney? They would go down faster than JB on a cack if they didn't have Pixar.

@Boobs

Don't forget Marvel. They're milking the sh*t out of that acquisition too.

Henry should work on his blow-job technique then.

Dn't get the math, tbh. How much would the film have cost total? Were they predicting massive over-runs? Even if the film cost 200 million, and made maybe 250 million, that's still better than losing 50 million up front.

The again, f*ck, how does a stop-motion film these days cost that much? 25 mil, yeah, maybe, but twice that and counting?

And what's the dude's track record? Any predictable profit margin?

I can only guess Selick's project was way, way, WAY over budget.

August 17th?

Maybe they should have put the film on hold to see how Frankenweenie does before shutting it down, but seeing as how they hadn't even hired voice talent, fifty million is a damned good reason to shutter the job.
