Matt Damon Says He'll Likely Never Return as Jason BournePosted: October 11th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Ever since "The Bourne Ultimatum" hit theaters, Matt Damon has been talking about returning as Jason Bourne for more installments as long as director Paul Greengrass returns as well. Unfortunately the relationship between Universal Pictures and Greengrass broke down, leaving Universal with no choice but to take the franchise into a different direction.
Jeremy Renner was cast in "The Bourne Legacy" as another character in a world where Jason Bourne still exists. All throughout the production, Damon continued stating that he would consider reprising his role, possibly teaming up with Renner's character.
But things have apparently changed because Damon now feels that he will not be able to return. "I've always been open to it as long as Paul Greengrass directs, I don't think he's going to do it," the actor explained. "From what I understand, ['The Bourne Legacy'] relives ['The Bourne Ultimatum'] from a different perspective. Because they use ['Ultimatum'] actors and characters, [that means] that whatever they said is true and we'd have to acknowledge it in any Bourne movie that we'd do. And that makes it really tough."

Damon/ Greengrass were even talking about getting the "2 Bournes" together, but doubt it will come to fruitition...
Remember Gilroy is still, for now, helming the franchise and with since his fall/out with Damon/ Greengrass, will probably not want to give up his director chair to Greengrass, thus never really having Damon back.
And that line that Damon won't come back because it's tough that the characters changing the plot is bullsh!t. I think it's really a jab to Gilroy (co-screenwriter in past Bourne films) of how he f*cked up the franchise, IMO...
Motherf*cking movie politics...

I'm sure he'd return for another crappy Oceans movie if they called him. And he made We Bought A Zoo, which proves he doesn't know how to pick projects. And he's playing Michael Douglas' butt buddy in that Liberace biopic. It'll be a while before he has another success, methinks.

Couldn't give a f*ck if I tried. There was no need for a third film,it could easily have been tied up in part 2.The third just felt like a retread.

The 1st movie that didn't involve Greengrass is still the best of the whole series by far IMO

As long as the studio hires greengrass then damon will go back. I think matt is just drawing a line in the sand. Id bet thry have already called him and greengrass about returning. They are just posturing. Saying it will be "x" amount harder just sounds like "hey we deserve more money since you went and f*cked it up to milk the franchise". I bet its also a ploy to shift all the blame on gilroy and put pressure on the studio to cut him out thus allowing the "golden knights to ride in" and save the day and right the ship. Now with that said, if it happens im game. A good movie is a good movie regardless of how all the politics goes. I trust them both to only return if its going to be a quality film. So i say why not?

The Bourne Legacy felt like a 'Webisode' special feature to the Bourne Trilogy. Would have maybe worked as a stand alone movie, but don't keep referencing the title character the whole way through the movie, only to have him not appear.
Either get Damon back, or let it die.
