Kick-Ass, HUGE thumbs up! March 25th, 2010 [2:46:19] | | 9/10 |
| UmiFujii: I had the good fortune to attend the world premier of Kisk-Ass on March 12th, 2010 at the SXSW film festival. This was an amazingly good movie. It was not only entertaining but the little girl playing Hit Girl did a superb job. She easily outshone her fellow actors including Nick Cage. The premise is one which hits the nerve of every one of us who has a secret desire to go "super" and kick the bad guys. It ended with the hint of a sequel or series. I highly recommend this movie. It may not be for the very young (as is status quo for many Lionsgate films), but it is certainly worth seeing for those over 13. I will go see it again in April with my family. The audience seemed to love it as much as I did.

Surpassed all expectations! March 29th, 2010 [8:43:53] | | 10/10 |
| AYT BALL: Cant say enough good things about this movie, its everything i want to see in a movie, funny as hell, great action, original story and even some emotional moments thrown in! Hit Girl is gonna be an over night superstar thanks to this movie! but everyone played their parts to perfection! cant wait to see it again! |
What a bloody good movie! (SPOILER ALERT!) April 12th, 2010 [2:11:35] | | 9/10 |
| masht7: Before I start this review there are going to be quite a bit of spoilers so if you havn't see the movie don't read this review. Being a big fan of the comics, I was very excited seeing it being adapted to the big screen. From all the trailers (more of the restricted trailers), I knew this this was going to bring a sort of spark to the comics making it have more fun and violence. I and saw the film last night for the first time and just as the last frame rolled, I had a smile on my face and continuted to have long after walking out of the cinema. What a brilliant film, yes there are a few changes from the comics but those changes are what I wanted in the comics. The performances in this film are fantastic including Chloe Mortez as Hit-Girl (Who stole the show for me), Mark Strong as Frank D'Amico who's character was so menacing and offcourse the one and only Aaron Johnson as Dave Lizewski/KICK-ASS who was just (I know this may sound corny) KICK-ASS! Nicolas Cage as Big Daddy was back to being a bad-ass again (which is really rare seeing) ,but his character was losing someone within and Christopher Mintz-Please as Red Mist whos just hilarious from start to finish. This film has everything chessy, chliched and predictable but in a way that shows humor in a different form. This film is going to be remembered for its moral 'with no power comes no responsibility', which is really true. Is there anything I didn't like about this film: only one thing, the music used in the scene Big Daddy dies (I told you you should of listened to the spoiler alert) was the same music used in Danny Boyle's mvie Sunshine. Mad-ass piece of music but this movie should of made its own score. I recomend this movie to anyone who loves superhero movies. KICK-ASS FREAKIN ROCKS! |
Hitgirl review April 17th, 2010 [11:04:44] | | 6/10 |
| malachite: Chloe Moretz saves this movie. Nick cage made me die a little inside. Aaron Johnson was ok but nothing special. Christopher Mintz-plasse was solid as Red Mist. He at least managed to make a believable villain with real emotions and everything. Still Chloe steals every scene she is in. Now for the spoilers. There are two points that I disliked and, you can feel free to call me a fan boy if you want for these. The change of Dave getting the girl. I felt in the comic it was a nice bit of realism that the guy didn't get the girl. Second the crazy inclusion of the minigun equipped jet pack threw any hope of the character Kickass actually getting to do so. Yes thats right I HATE the minigun jetpack. I felt it actually made Kick ass into even more of a weenie then he was in the comic. All things told Chloe stole the show, maybe the sequel should actually be Hitgirl. |
Awesome April 23rd, 2010 [5:42:52] | | 10/10 |
| Bill The Butcher Cutting: Ive got the graphic novel and seen this film twice now so @Malachite, im sorry dude but if you did your homework, you would find out that they actually made the film along with the comic and actually finished the film before the comic had ended so thats why it was a little different but 6/10 come on, anyways kick ass is easily the best film so far this year and its gonna take a lot to beat it, the fight scenes were awesome the soundtrack was superb and Mark Strong was ace again as the bad guyand of course hit-girl (Chloe Moretz) is know a cult figure, im so lookin foward to book 2 and 3, i just hope the next two films will be as awesome as the 1st GO AND SEE KICK-ASS |
A Kickass movie experience April 23rd, 2010 [11:13:00] | | 9/10 |
| LeDuze: This was probably the most fun in-theatre movie-going experience I've had since I saw Grindhouse. There were small details that bothered me about it, and the fact that Kick-Ass was a really boring character was kind of annoying, but overall this movie made me giddy with fangirl glee. The fight scenes are masterfully executed, the script is funny and unapologetically violent and curse-word ridden, and Hit-Girl was everything I was expecting and hoping she'd be. There's no question that she stole not only every scene she was in, but the entire movie. I can't wait to see what Chloe Moretz does next (unless "Let Me In" turns out to be shiteous, which it might be).
I only wish critics could see this movie for what it is, and appreciate it as such. The constant complaints and horrified gasps at Hit Girl's violent upbringing and potty mouth are understandable when one takes oneself out of the movie for a second, but ultimately these complaints are unwarranted. The movie is a bit overlong, but it's a fun and wild ride that kept me interested and wanting more. I can't wait to see it again. |
Kick-ASS!! May 28th, 2010 [1:05:19] | | 9/10 |
| 4Faith6: The movie title actually reviews it's self, Kick-Ass! This was such a good movie with some amazing songs and a very good movie score! I never saw a restricted trailer of the movie so I thought this is a PG movie with cartoon violence. Boy was I wrong! Is was a Bloody awesome movie! Hit Girl is by far my favorite character! You do not want to mess with her! A great movie! |
was wrong about this one April 25th, 2012 [11:49:47] | | 10/10 |
| bandolero999: Kick-Ass is an adaptation from a comic book like Sin City,Watchmen.
At first before watching this movie,I did not take it seriously at all and the trailer wasnt very revealing as well. Looked more like a spoof of a superhero movie with two kids and Nicolas Cage as a middleaged man, looking like a very washed up superhero.Boy was I wrong. Also the "R" rating was a hint that this movie was gonna be explicit, and it sure was. This movie has everything, good story, comedy, action from hand to hand to weapons. The villian in the movie is British actor Mark Strong, who has been in many movies like Revolver,RocknRolla,Green Lantern,John Carter. He plays an Italian New York mobster Frank D'Amico and his son Christopher-Mintz(Mclovin)looks up to him and one day wants to take over the bussiness.
Then main two characters in the story are Aaron Johnson who plays the title character Kick-Ass and Chloe Grace-Moretz who plays Hit Girl.Chloe has got the be the best performer in the movie and the scene stealer as well. She shows energy, dedication and some good martial arts moves to the table.Nicolas Cage plays the father of Hit-Girl and is also a superhero known as Big Daddy.Big Daddy has been framed by Frank D'Amico and is put in jail for many years and is the cause of death of his wife.
The movie itself is very realistic and the superheroes have no superpowers like the Xmen or the Hulk. They use their intelligence to solve crimes. There hasnt been an "R" rated superhero movie like this since Watchmen,Sin City and the first two Blade movies.I havent seen such a great supporting actor performance from Nic Cage in a long time. With this movie it put him back on the spot.
After the succes of Kick-Ass.Director Matthew Vaughn was chosen to direct X-Men First Class and that was another success from him. |
